In Greece there are generally speaking, the following type of taxes: 1) Income tax 2) property tax, 3) V.A.T. 4) other/special taxation (e.g. import tax, alcohol tobacco and tax on fuel, etc. One is considered to be a Greek resident and liable to Greek tax if any of the following apply:

 One’s permanent home,is in Greece and/or resides over 183 days per year in Greece. One has his/her main professional activities in Greece Owning property in Greece doesn’t create tax obligations for the owner (other than the property tax), nor this is an evidence that his domicile is Greece.

According to law 3943/2011, article 12, articles 1 and 2 of the main income tax code in Greece were amended.

“ Residence and moving residence Paragraphs 1 and 2 of Article 2 of the Income Tax Code are replaced as follows: Subject to tax on worldwide income is any natural person, who permanently resides in Greece, or usually stays in Greece. Subject to tax on income earned in Greece is any natural person, regardless of his place of residence or habitual residence. As a usual stay in Greece is considered the stay which exceeds one hundred eighty-three days total within the same calendar year. The stay presumed as usual, unless the taxpayer proves otherwise.”
